Author Q&A with Elizabeth Hoyt

Interview Banner

What do you hope readers will take away from reading Duke of Pleasure?

Hope. That’s the theme of the book—hope and redemption through love.

What can we expect from Duke of Pleasure?

Swashbuckling. There will be lots of swashing of swords due to the fact that Alf, the heroine of Duke of Pleasure is also the Ghost of St. Giles, a masked vigilante who protects the poor and downtrodden in London’s stews. With two swords. She’s badass.

Was there any particular research that you did for the new book?

Well, according to my Pinterest page I researched constellations…mostly, as I remember, to see how they were depicted in Georgian times and earlier. Boy, was that a research black hole—I think I looked up from my computer three hours later.

When you start writing, do you already have an ending in mind, or do you just let the narrative go where it takes you?

Yes! I have an ending in mind. It’s the middle stuff that needs working on. 😉

What’s next for you?

Right now I’m writing Duke of Desire, the twelfth and final Maiden Lane book. It’ll be out August 2017.

By the way- this is a simply wonderful series that has several of my fav genres (romance, historical London, a hint of fairy tale magic, mystery/suspense & humor) mixed to create a spectacular story. I read oodles of series but this is one of only 4 or 5 that I read immediately upon release. Thank you for such entertaining stories and characters that never fail to keep me up all night reading just one more chapter.

Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that you like Maiden Lane and that you’re continuing to like it! 😉

About Duke of Pleasure

dukeofpleasure3_rgb300IN THE ARMS OF DANGER

Bold. Brave. Brutally handsome. Hugh Fitzroy, the Duke of Kyle, is the king’s secret weapon. Sent to defeat the notorious Lords of Chaos, he is ambushed in a London alley-and rescued by an unlikely ally: a masked stranger with the unmistakable curves of a woman.

IN THE HEAT OF DESIRE

Cocky. Clever. Courageously independent. Alf has survived on the perilous streets of St. Giles by disguising her sex. By day she is a boy, dealing in information and secrets. By night she’s the notorious Ghost of St. Giles, a masked vigilante. But as she saves Hugh from assassins, she finds herself succumbing to temptation . . .

ONE KISS WILL CHANGE THEIR LIVES FOREVER

When Hugh hires Alf to investigate the Lords of Chaos, her worlds collide. Once Hugh realizes that the boy and the Ghost are the same, will Alf find the courage to become the woman she needs to be-before the Lords of Chaos destroy them both?

After returning from service, Army veteran Jack McCall fought his way back from addiction and joined a charity supporting homeless veterans in London, where he became an inspiration to others. He approaches Edward Marsden, Viscount Routhsley, a known playboy and philanthropist, about sponsorship for his charity. To his surprise, Edward isn’t the shallow pleasure-seeker everyone assumes, and he and Edward share many interests. Little by little, they are drawn together in spite of the different worlds they come from.

But for two men in the public eye, happiness won’t be so easily achieved. Edward fears coming out as gay will shift attention from his charity work, and Jack worries his relationship with the aristocrat will undermine the integrity of his foundation. They come under intense scrutiny, leading to an inevitable clash between Jack and the press who won’t stop harassing them. As what they’ve built comes crashing down, Jack and Edward must make a choice: continue presenting the facade the public expects, or expose the private truths in their hearts so they can be together.
