Falling For A Song

by Edie Danford

Hi, everyone! I’m excited to share my new book Second Song with you!

Healing, music, and love are big themes in the book, and, while I was writing it I found myself thinking a lot about how falling for a song is similar to falling in love, whether it’s a friendship, a romance, a long-term partnership, or a fling.

Sometimes you know immediately, from those first few notes or those first few moments after meeting someone, that it’s gonna hit a groove in your soul. I knew within five minutes of meeting my best friend in college that we were going to become forever-sisters!

And sometimes you notice the song or the person because it’s so dang jarring. There’s a beat or an attitude that catches your attention because it’s unlike anything you’ve experienced before. You can’t get it out of your head. You’re intrigued and, over time, with more listens, more conversations, you’re hooked. This is how it was for me and my husband!

And then there are those times when a song or someone you meet is just ugh. Awful. Not your taste. But then something unexpected occurs—maybe your ears are in a different mood, or you see the person in a new light—and what once grated like nails on a chalkboard affects your senses with shocking smoothness. If this song were a romance novel, it would be enemies-to-lovers!

Well, when the heroes of Second Song meet and spend time together they go through a whole gamut of melodies.

At first it’s melancholy. They share a tragedy in their past and they’re unsure they can get beyond it. The tunes they inspire in each other might be too intense to bear.

But then, as they get to know each other, the tune changes and both men want to learn its layers, keep listening. Soon, it’s on both of their playlists, but neither of them knows it’s been put on Repeat!

When they’re forced to leave each other, the music stops and the silence is awful. In the end, they realize the unique harmony they make together is one they simply can’t live without.

What’s better than a love song? A love song with a happy ending!

Thanks so much for reading and for having me on the blog!

Character Interview Derek and Scott from Wrestling With Hope by DH Starr + Excerpt!

Blogger_Character_Interview copy

I’m gonna try something new for you and have my two characters talk to you about themselves and about me rather than spewing stuff about myself. Hope you get to know these two awesome guys a bit through the process.

Interview With Derek and Scott

Beck Schultz (Derek’s best friend): Derek, you sweet-assed lollipop. Come give mama a kiss. You too, Scott, I wanna be the filling in a hot man-sandwich.

Derek: Beck, we’re here to interview, can’t you tone it down for even one second?

Beck (pouts): I swear, Derek, I oughtta…

Scott: Yeah, yeah. We all know how much you love to threaten the male anatomy. What will it be this time? It’s not summer so skewers and barbeques are out of the question. It isn’t quite winter yet, so roasting them like chestnuts on an open fire seams unseasonable. What is a good autumn threat?

Beck: You…I…whatever. Let’s sit and get to business. (Takes out a notepad) Why don’t we start by telling me who this DH Starr character is?

Derek: Doug? He’s a good guy. Kind of quiet and keeps to himself too much, but he’s working on that. He’s a teacher and has this zany personality. I bet I would have loved school if he’d been around to make life fun. He’s also got this awesome positive energy about him. You know, expects the best in people. Like he gets disappointed when people let him down, but he doesn’t let it get in his way of remaining optimistic and hoping for the best.

Scott: I’d have to agree. He once told me that he’s crazy and I was like, whaaaaaatttt? It’s kind of a weird thing to say about yourself. But the more I got to know him, the more I understood what he meant. There’s nothing bland about the guy. Like, he once told me his students love the song Baby Shark and he made up some whacked-out dance that gets the kids giggling and dancing, and then they are all energized to learn. That’s kinda cool.

Beck: Sounds like my kind of guy. Maybe you should introduce us.

Derek: Sorry, Beck, he plays for our team.

Beck: Boo. All the good ones do. Oh well, let’s move on. How are you doing, Scotty? This was a tough year for you with your dad and all.

Scott: Yeah. I’m holding up. It wasn’t easy reconnecting with Dad, but I’m glad I did. I mean, you saw what he was like before, back in high school, when he nearly broke me and Derek up. And then he took off and ditched me and Mom. I wasn’t prepared to open up to him. But in the end, it was the right choice and I feel much better now because of it.

Derek: Scott is underplaying his courage. (Turns to Scott). You really are my hero. I mean, the way you kept pushing yourself when everything inside you wanted to run. No one would have blamed you for telling the guy to screw off and leave you alone forever, but you wouldn’t cave. I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about how amazing you are.

Scott: (Kisses Derek’s cheek). You sure those goosebumps aren’t from what we did in the dressing room before this interview.

Beck: Oh, do tell!

Derek: Scott! Let’s keep it PG for at least five minutes.

Beck: I knew there was a reason I called you Downer Derek growing up.

Derek: What? You never called me…whatever, you want to hear about what happened, fine. Go for it, Scott.

Scott: (Snapping his gaze back and forth between Derek and Beck) Uh, how about you ask your next question, Beck.

Beck: Fine. But you better spill once this interview is over. Derek, why don’t you tell me what you love about Scott. And Babe, keep it to two minutes or less.

Derek: (Scowls, then smiles) Scott comes off as low-key and controlled to the outside world, but deep down he’s filled with passion and fiercely defends the people who matter most to him. Being with him makes me feel like I’m the most special person in the world. I mean, right from the beginning, it felt like he could see right into my soul. Like he knew how much I needed to finally come out as who I am for the world to see. As much as he didn’t want to at first, he never stood in my way. His unwavering support is one of the things I love about him. Then there’s the everyday stuff. He’s constantly touching me, giving me private glances when we’re around other people, texting me with goofy messages. You know, just constantly showing me that he’s thinking about me.

Scott: Derek gives me too much credit. Everything he’s just said isn’t even an effort for me. Being there for him. Thinking about him. Standing behind him with whatever he needs. It’s as easy as breathing. Before I met him, I didn’t know what it meant to count on anything. I moved around, as you know, because Dad had to transfer so much. And Dad was always hard, holding me to unreachable expectations and withholding emotions of any kind. Basically, I felt like I was floating through life until Derek anchored me. And his way with people, how he can’t resist helping others in need, I fall in love with him all over again every day just by watching the amazing things he does.

Beck: (Wiping a tear from her eye) Aw, you two are so damn cute. So, this new book about you, Wrestling With Hope, why is it called that? I mean, I get the other three Wrestling With Desire, Wrestling With Love, and Wrestling With Passion. I mean look at you two. You can’t keep your pants on long enough to get ready for an interview. Why is this one focused on hope?

Scott: Well, one thing that stuck with me from spending all this time with Dad is that hope has power. It’s scary to hope, because when you do, there’s a chance you won’t get what you want and that can be crushing. But if you never wish for something, hope for it, yearn for it, then are you really living? Life is all about taking chances. Hell, Derek took one hell of a chance by tying himself to someone like me.

Derek: Quit it, Scott.

Scott: Kidding. Jeez, so serious.

Beck: Don’t worry, I’ll kick him in his nuts later.

Derek: All right. All right. Go on.

Scott: Anyways, like I was saying, I had very low expectations about seeing my dad again. But the more time I spent with him, I discovered a light beginning to grow inside me. This piece of myself which always felt like I was unlovable because Dad never showed me love, was like an empty hole in my heart. Derek filled most of the empty space, but nothing can completely erase a lifetime of rejection from a person who is supposed to love you unconditionally. And as that light grew, I began to realize that the emptiness had shrunk and I began to believe I could heal from the damage of growing up if I managed to get past my own resentment and let Dad in. Wrestling With Hope seems like a perfect title for this one, because that’s exactly what I did. Without it, I never would have given Dad a chance.

Beck: Oh, Scotty. I love you so much and am so happy you finally realize how amazing you are.

Derek: (Snuggling closer to Scott) Me too.

Beck: So, let’s get back to the sexy stuff. Derek, what’s Scott like in bed. I mean we’ve all seen that huge package he can’t hide no matter how baggy his shorts are.

Derek: Well, you know I’m not gonna answer that here, but if you read the first chapter of the new book, Scott kinda ravages me right away. I’m sure you’ll find your answer there.

Beck: Oh boo. I guess I’ll have to purchase my copy right now. That’s all the time we have. (Puts down notepad). Now, about what happened in the dressing room.

First Priority by Este Holland: Exclusive Excerpt & Giveaway!

Exclusive Excerpt from First Priority

by Este Holland

Truman

I loved parties. Even more, I loved parties that were all about me. Gilt, the elite film club in LA, met at the Chateau Bissou every month, but this was a special occasion for my Oscar nomination.

I’d already been riding high from all the articles and interviews done about me, but nothing, abso-fucking-lutely nothing, compared to hearing Janice Jane read my name off that card.

“Performance by an actor in a leading role…oh, I’m so excited! It’s Truman James! Bitter Nightshade!”

Most of the event was a blur after that. I’d hugged dozens of people and read the speech written for me without fumbling. Now, I sat enjoying a cigar and a glass of 1939 Macallan with the biggest producer in the world, Gene Montray, while watching hot men and women of various ages flit around half-naked, taking orders and invitations.

I had my eye on a cute little brown-haired twink with a birthmark high up on his thigh. He wore no shirt and his skin glowed under the amber lights as he passed by, giving me a sultry smile. He smiled again before disappearing down the rear hallway.

“Truman, go after him before you snap your neck from looking.”

I turned to Gene with a laugh and a wink. “You don’t have to tell me twice.”

I made my way down the hall. A hand shot out to grab my lapel and I grinned. Twinky pulled me into a walk-in pantry, and I watched as he tried to seduce me with a slow lick of his full lips. “Congratulations, Mr. James. I loved your movie.”

Smirking, I said, “I doubt it.” The truth was, I barely even remembered the fucking thing. It was shot over ayear ago, and there had been so many reshoots and edits.… “You want to suck my dick or what?”

He flashed his capped teeth and kneeled. I was stiff and horny after my night, and I wanted to get off. He unzipped my tuxedo pants and fished my cock out; it wasn’t hard to find. He was sloppy as he sucked me. I would be too if I had that many fake teeth.

“Hey…Twinky.” I tapped his head. “Is this your first blowjob?”

He pulled off and looked up at me. “Huh? No. My name’s—”

“Yeah, it doesn’t matter. You suck at sucking.”

I was too busy zipping up my now-flagging erection to notice his anger. This was becoming an all too familiar problem I didn’t want to think about.

I opened the pantry door and made my way to the employees-only bathroom.

“This is ridiculous, Adam. You’re twenty-seven, for God’s sake!”

I stopped at the harsh voice coming from around the corner.

“I’m sorry.” The shy voice was high for a man, but it had a lyrical quality that caught my attention.

“Sorry? It’s just a party. You go out and you talk about movies. Stop hiding in the lounge like a kid and act like a fucking adult!”

I kept going and saw them. One was muscular and vaguely familiar. The other, slender but fit, with gorgeous skin that would be buttery-smooth under my hands. I swallowed the saliva gathering in my mouth. My erection sprang back with a vengeance and pointed at him like a compass due north.

The muscular one glanced over and did a double take. “Mr. James!”

“You’re in my way.” I pointed to the bathroom beyond the pair.

“Oh, sorry.”

They shuffled over, and I nodded. With one last glare at the pretty man, the muscular one left.

Pretty looked everywhere but at me and ducked his head, trying to squeeze past me in the narrow space. He was shorter than me by about four inches, I guessed, if he stood straight.

“Wait.”

He froze and turned halfway.

“Look at me.”

Jolting, his gaze shot up, more in surprise at the order than obedience.

Ah. Green eyes under that wheat-colored hair. “Y-yes?”

“Just wondering what color your eyes were. Are you into guys?”

His cheeks flushed red, and he stepped away as I stepped forward with my second-best smile. That was a definite yes. “Meet me in the bathroom.”

Those big eyes widened and followed me as I continued down the hall.

Adam

Am I into guys? Meet him in the bathroom?

I was a little out of touch with the real world, and I hadn’t been on a date in years, but even I was aware of what he wanted. And he was being rude about it. The jerk. I ran in the opposite direction. Literally. I ran so fast, the guests in the purple room were a blur.

I knew who he was, of course. My stepbrother, Chad, had made it my job to know. Dragging me to all the parties he could get into had become Chad’s crusade to “change me for the better” as he put it. I’d hadto study, with him flashing me photos on his phone, the “Who’s Who” in LA.

I slowed my steps, admiring the beauty of the hotel with its Old Hollywood charm, and disappeared into a small room with a lovely desk, though the books on the shelves were purely decorative. Collapsing on a settee, I ran my hands through my gelled hair, messing up all the work Chad’s girlfriend had done.

Truman James. He’d started his acting career—a little late by Hollywood standards at the age of twenty-seven—with a bang and had hit after hit for years. He’d started as a model, I recalled, and he was perfect for it with his sculpted bone structure, thick dark hair, and dark blue eyes. I’d never cared for his movies. Bitter Nightshade had been okay, but the book was sooo much better. They’d left out the most important scene between Mercury and Alana! And he definitely hadn’t been the best actor to play Mercury. Chris Brazon would’ve been much more appropriate. My buddy Jeff and I had chatted about it one night while gaming, and he agreed with me. Renee Jones had been good as Alana, though. She’d captured her fierce innocence perfectly.

Chad had gotten me into one of the most coveted parties in the world, calling in favors left and right, and here I was, hiding. He didn’t understand that I didn’t care. I wanted to be at home, writing.

I hadn’t told Chad how well my books had started to sell. Heck, Chad didn’t even know I wrote books. He knew I liked books, but not the self-publishing. He’d look down on it like he did with my love of playing the keyboard, and how I’d lived and breathed Dragon Ball Z with my friends when we were young.

I’d stopped caring a long time ago what my stepbrother thought of me, but living in his guest room for the past few months while my apartment was fixed for a mold problem had brought all that old shit to the surface. He hadn’t asked me for rent, though I’d offered. So, now he wanted to “fix” me and expected me to cooperate because I was living there for free. It was a ridiculous turn of events, and I didn’t know how to stop the cycle.

My thoughts circled around to Truman James. It was beginning to sink in, what he’d asked me. He wanted to fool around at a party with me. I did like guys, and he was gorgeous with his defiant good looks and famous slashing grin, but I wouldn’t know what to do or what to say to him. I had trouble talking to my own friends and family, let alone strangers and movie stars.

My chest hollowed out, and a cold sensation spread through my limbs all the way down to my fingertips. Thinking about going out there and talking to people made my stomach cramp and sweat break out on my palms.

I wiped them on my thighs and kept rubbing. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths as the anxiety slowly crept upon me. I was used to it. It wasn’t an attack, yet.

I kept tellingmyself that until I’d calmed.

I want to go home.

Bishop

by A.E. Via

Well hello all!!

I’m really happy to be here to talk about my latest release entitled: Bishop: A True Lover’s Story. Bishop’s story is my twentieth book I’ve written, and I still can’t quite believe it. A lot of people – especially my family – has asked me why I started writing gay romance, and all I can say is that it’s in my heart.

When I first wrote Blue Moon Too Good To Be True in 2013 I never imagined it’d be received with such love by such an amazing audience. This has been the greatest experience of my life and I’m far from stopping.

I hope you’ll enjoy this new one.

Rocket Science by K.M. Neuhold: Exclusive Excerpt!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Rocket Science

by K.M. Neuhold

Twisted Cherry is crowded, but I manage to spot an unoccupied high-top table and snag it while I wait for Einstein to show. My eyes scan the crowd reflexively, even though right now I’m more curious to see the Nerdlet than to find a piece of ass. Images of him from all those years ago fill my mind and make me smile. He always seemed to be lugging around a bag full of textbooks that weighed more than he did, thick-rimmed glasses in place and curly hair that was never in place. I wonder if he still wears the t-shirts with the science puns on them or if he still keeps his inhaler on a string around his neck to keep from losing it.

I chuckle to myself at the thought and wave down the nearest waiter for a drink and then return to letting my attention wander. My gaze catches on a man as he wanders into the bar. He’s not my usual type, but damn if he isn’t pretty. His dark hair hangs in wild curls, flopping down over his forehead, his features are sharp, but his lips look full and soft, and I have no doubt they’d feel like heaven wrapped around my cock. He’s wearing a pair of jeans, a black t-shirt, and a light-colored blazer that might look out of place in a bar on anyone else, but somehow looks absolutely perfect on him.

I have a hard time tearing my eyes off him, my dick growing hard in the confines of my jeans as I stare shamelessly, and he looks around the bar with a somewhat lost expression. He turns his head slightly, and our eyes meet, and a shy, awkward smile forms on his lips. My cock gets even harder as I return the smile, thoughts of the Nerdlet I’m here to meet fleeing my mind in favor of calculating the best method of seducing such a sweet little treat.

“Paxton?” he asks, and my heart sinks.

“Fuck me,” I mutter, reaching for my drink.

The Black Mask by Samuel King: Exclusive Excerpy!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from The Black Mask

by Samuel King

I spend the rest of the day at the small desk in my bedroom, working at my laptop. Writing about The Black Mask is the most fun thing I do, but it earns me less than a hundred pounds a month. To actually make a living, I create content for various websites—mostly boring retail sites that just need blurbs to make boring products sound…well, less boring. Sadly, the words for these projects don’t come to me as easily as those for The Black Mask stories and it’s nine o’clock in the evening before I close my laptop and wander through to the living room. Jules and John are still naked, but they are now sitting side-by-side on the sofa, watching TV and eating delivery pizza.

“Hi,” says Jules.

“All right?” says John, who has a strong London accent that is, actually, very hot. I glance down into his lap and catch sight of his semi-engorged cock poking out from under the pizza box. He notices my attention and grins. I hastily grab another beer and head back to my room.

I set the beer down on the bedside table and pick up the TV remote, but as I turn to point it at the television, I freeze. On the wall is a large, glowing white rectangle. It’s the poster of The Black Mask, but The Black Mask is missing. Something stirs in the corner of the bedroom behind me.

I swing around and stagger back at the sight of The Black Mask arising from a crouching position on the other side of my bed. I slap a hand over my mouth to stifle whatever sound I’m likely to make at this impossible development.

He is exactly as I imagine him—about six-foot-three, broad shouldered and with a muscle-bound, sculpted physique. He is covered in black from head to foot, his costume showing every curve and bulge. And what a bulge. I’ve never described that in any of The Black Mask stories I’ve written but there it is—a huge, thick cock almost tearing through the -black fabric. I gape at it. I can see the heavy balls, the at-least-nine-inch shaft and the bell-end, all wrapped in black but begging to be uncovered and sucked.

“How…?” is all I can manage in terms of words.

He glances around, as if confused himself, then looks at me. At least I assume he’s looking at me, although I can’t actually see his eyes. He scratches his head with a leathergloved hand and shrugs.

Without warning, he leaps across the bed in one bound—he can leap over houses in my stories—and lands right in front of me. He wraps one powerful arm around my waist and pulls me to him, and that fat, hard dick is pushing against my groin. Despite the enormity and impossibility of the situation, my cock responds, growing stiff in seconds. I stare into his eyes, which are just visible through the slits in his mask, now that he is so close. They are bright blue, just as they should be.

He strokes my cheek, the leather of his gloves soft against my skin, then runs a finger along my lower lip, leaving no doubt that this version of The Black Mask is definitely into guys. I push forward with my hips so that our cocks are properly rubbing against each other. I should be screaming or passing out with shock, but I just want what is happening to continue. I want to get fucked by The Black Mask, however impossible that scenario may be. Continue reading

Hard Lessons by Samuel King: Exclusive Excerpt!

Blogger_Exclusive Excerpt

Exclusive Excerpt from Hard Lessons

by Samuel King

It took Jake a while to find the dining room that evening. It was in the old part of the house on the ground floor and was surprisingly cozy, compared to some of the other rooms he had wandered through. A long, robust wooden table, which looked like it had been carved straight from one of the oak trees lining the driveway, took up much of the space, and an equally sturdy looking sideboard was laid with numerous serving bowls and dishes. The room was filled with a delicious meaty smell.

“Hello there!” greeted Nathan, who was sitting at the head of the table. “Come and sit down. Would you like a glass of wine?”

“It is Friday night, after all,” chirped Alice, who was sitting just to Nathan’s right. She seemed to have defrosted since that afternoon and offered Jake a wide grin.

After a moment’s dithering, Jake took the seat directly opposite Alice. When he scanned the table, he saw it was the only empty seat with a place setting and there would be no one else joining them. All this food for three people? he thought.

“Red okay?” asked Nathan, gesturing to the open bottle of wine on the table between them.

“Yes, fine,” said Jake.

“It’s a good one,” said Alice, and her tone suggested Jake should be grateful. Maybe she hadn’t totally thawed after all.

“So, just help yourself to food whenever you’re ready,” said Nathan. “We like to keep it casual here, no standing on ceremony. We just employ a chef, a gardener and a team of cleaners who come in once a week. This isn’t Brideshead Revisited. You don’t have to worry about a valet walking into your room and catching you naked.”

“Nathan!” squealed Alice.

Jake blushed, not missing the reference to their earlier encounter. Nathan slipped Jake a secret wink and took a swig of wine.

“Well, I’m ready to eat,” Nathan said, standing.

As Nathan helped himself to dinner, Jake couldn’t help but admire him. He had changed out of his suit into a nicely fitted pair of jeans and a Polo shirt, which showed off every muscle of his broad back and shoulders. The jeans did a great job of displaying his full, manly arse too, which flexed as Nathan made his way along the sideboard.

“Shall we?” asked Alice, and Jake realized she was watching him intently with her eyebrows slightly raised.

“Oh, yes,” said Jake, standing. “I’m starving. I didn’t eat on the train.”

Jake made a mental note to stop lusting after his new boss. He was here to get away from romance, not find it. But it wasn’t easy when the boss was so bloody hot and giving definite signals that he was into him.

During dinner, which was a delicious lamb shank with creamy mashed potato and asparagus, conversation flowed quite naturally, with Nathan asking Jake questions about his life in London. Alice chipped in every now and then, but seemed more intent on drinking the wine than finding out about Jake. Nathan topped up Jake’s glass several times, and by nine-thirty, Jake was feeling warm and relaxed. As he sank a little lower in his chair, he felt Nathan’s knee rest against his. Nathan was saying something to Alice about a project he was working on, but as he spoke to his sister, he began to raise and lower his knee, deliberately brushing Jake’s leg.

Jake’s heart began to pound. He was tempted just to go with it, return the pressure and enjoy a moment of secret intimacy with this gorgeous man. But it was too much and way too soon. In some ways, it was a bit insulting.

He’d come here to do a job, after all, not be a sexual plaything. With all the willpower he could muster, Jake stood. Nathan looked at him, surprised.

“I’m going to get an early night,” he said. “It’s been a long day. Thanks for the lovely meal.”

“Sleep well,” said Alice.

“It’s early,” said Nathan, his gaze resting on Jake’s face, imploring him to stay. “And you don’t have to work tomorrow. I’m free too. I could drive you into the nearest village if you like. We can get some lunch. Talk about how the lessons are going to work.”

“That sounds great,” said Jake. “But I will head up. See you both tomorrow.”

“Good night, Jake,” said Nathan, his gaze never faltering.

Jake turned and hurried from the room before he had the chance to change his mind and enjoy a long, drunken evening with Nathan. He had a good idea where an evening like that would lead and he wasn’t ready for it. Although, as he headed for his room, he thought of Nathan’s stunning eyes and muscular body, the man’s black hair and deep voice, and he wasn’t sure how long he could resist if his boss persevered in his seduction.

When he woke a few hours later, Jake was sure he could hear screaming. It was a woman’s voice and she seemed to be calling out a name. It must be Alice, crying out in her sleep.
