GRL Blog Tour: Cat Grant – GRL Years + Giveaway!

GRL Years

by Cat Grant

Is this really GRL’s fourth year? I remember the very first GRL in New Orleans in 2011. I’d never been to NOLA before, but despite the kind of heat and humidity I’m not used to, I fell in love with the city.

Every year GRL’s been in a different city I’ve never visited before. Albuquerque was a lot of fun. So was Atlanta. And now, Chicago, which I’ve only ever passed through on my way to another city.

GRL’s become a yearly mile marker for me. Another year as a published author, another (however many) new books. GRL 2011 was the first time anybody actually recognized me. I remember walking into the opening event in that huge ballroom. I was exhausted and  hungry from traveling all day, so I headed straight for the food table – until one very sweet reader spied my badge and shrieked, “OH MY GOD, IT’S CAT GRANT!!!”

I picked myself off the floor, signed her book and stood talking to her for about ten minutes while my stomach slowly consumed itself. But you know what? I didn’t even care. In my mind, I was going, “These are my people! No more getting shunted aside, treated like a red-headed stepchild like at RT or RWA. GRL’s a place where authors who write what I write are treated like rock stars.”

Is it any wonder I look forward to it every year?

GRL Blog Tour: Jacob Z. Flores – How to Make the Most of GRL + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

How to Make the Most of GRL

by Jacob Z. Flores

Hello, everyone! I’m Jacob Z. Flores, and the fab folks here at The Blogger Girls were kind enough to include me as part of their GRL Blog Tour, so before I begin waxing on about GRL, I thought I’d take a few moments and introduce myself to you.

I’m a m/m romance author. I typically write contemporary, but I have also written a gay contemporary m/m/m, paranormal, and dystopian. While contemporary is my favorite, I do have an itch to write another paranormal romance book in the near future. I have tons of plot bunnies humping around my brain, and at the rate they’re going, they are bound to produce some fruit from their furry loins, right?

But enough about furry loins because I could talk about that subject all day. Instead, let’s talk about GRL. This will be my third GRL, and I have to admit that I’m super excited. I can’t wait to see the friends I’ve made the past few years again and make a whole bunch of new friends this time around.

Still, even though GRL Chicago isn’t my first time at the rodeo, I’m still nervous.

Why is that you ask?

Well, one thing you need to know about me is that I’m shy. I’m one of those individuals who isn’t quite comfortable meeting new people and is worried about saying something stupid. Social situations typically make me feel awkward. However, once I get to know someone, watch out! I can’t stop talking, and I’m not afraid of doing stupid things. Just ask my friends. They have many tales to share about my antics.

So today I thought I’d share some tips with everyone on how to make the most of this wonderful experience that is GRL.

#1—Stay hydrated

And I mean with more than just alcohol. There will be plenty of liquid libations flowing throughout the weekend, especially after hours. Let me tell you: those are some good times. But you will need more than just Vodka to get you through to the other side. There’s a lot to see and plenty of people to meet. You can’t chat up your favorite author if you’re parched and hung over all the time. And how are you going to get Mary Calmes to sign your book if you can’t get out of bed the next morning? Drinking water during the day will prepare your system for the inevitable onslaught of tequila chasers.

Staying hydrated is important for all the non-drinkers out there too. GRL is a marathon not a sprint. There are lots of events to attend and so many people to meet. Plus, do you know how many people drink coffee at GRL? Like almost everyone! You’re guaranteed to have constant coffee companions and make tons of new friends walking to Starbucks or standing in line at the lobby coffee pot.

So you see drinking more than just alcohol is a good way to make sure you keep pace with GRL and meet some new and interesting folks.

#2—Don’t Be Afraid to Say Hi

Now this one is tough for an introvert like me, but this is an important piece of advice. Everyone at GRL is so darn friendly, but there are many shy readers and authors out there. That’s why you sometimes have to take the initiative. If you have a fave author that you want to talk to but are afraid you are going to fangirl in front of, don’t worry about it. Say hi and if you fangirl, so what? Most everyone there has done it at least once.

The great thing about GRL is that in the three years that I’ve attended, there hasn’t been one instance where I regretted saying hi to someone I didn’t know. Chances are likely that neither will you.

#3—Don’t Test the Water; Jump In

Again, another tough concept for introverts. We thrive on skirting the perimeter and seeing how social situations play out before dipping our toes in the water and then running back to the safety of the shadows. At GRL, you don’t have to do that. Everyone there is committed to having a good time, and the events are built around our love of man on man romance.

Remember, you are attending an event with other like minded individuals who enjoy most of the same things you do. If you have a question at an author panel, ask it. As an author, I enjoy answering readers’ questions. If it weren’t for those questions, I’d be sitting up there twiddling my thumbs in front of a room full of strangers. Who wants to see that? And don’t let the themed events at night intimidate you. Whether it’s a costume party of the Juke Joint, go. You don’t have to play dress up to enter, and if you want to but are nervous about it, don’t be. You’ll fit right in.

#4—Take a break

This is an important tip. There’s a lot going on at GRL. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, so don’t be afraid to head to your room for a short nap. There’s nothing wrong with recharging your batteries, and no one will think ill of you for needing some quiet time. We all need that. So when the mood strikes, go up to your room and close your eyes for a bit or sit back and read. Afterward, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running. I guarantee it.

#5—Join a Puppy Pile

What the hell is that, you ask? Well, a puppy pile is what you do with the group of friends you have made at GRL. You all go back to someone’s room and pile on the same bed. There’s nothing sexual about it, well, at least not the piles I’ve joined, but it’s a great way to lounge with your new best friends and relive the events of the day. It’s also a way to get to know each other better. Nothing brings new and established friends closer than munching on chips and pizza while gabbing the night away. At least until that first puppy starts snoring and you all head back to your rooms for bed.

But don’t fret. The next day you start all over again. How much fun is that?

So now that I’ve given you the 411 on how to make the most of GRL, I figured I’d also tell you a little bit about my Provincetown Series that I recently wrapped up. It’s a four book series that takes place in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In Provincetown, anything can happen—and usually does! Amid the windswept dunes, starry nights, and the eclectic cast of characters that call P-town home, true love comes calling, sometimes in the most unexpected places.

On a whim, he heads to Provincetown, Massachusetts, to nurse his broken heart and figure out his next step. He’s expecting to find rest and relaxation on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod. Instead, Zach meets a hunky porn star during a chance encounter at a leather shop he mistakes as a place to buy a belt that is definitely not for whipping.

Van Pierce is smitten when shy and inexperienced Zach crashes through a shelf of fetish gear. Though Van’s got an insatiable appetite for men on and off the set, his porn persona, Hart Throb, hides a broken heart. He’s struggling to find the reality the porno set doesn’t offer, and Zach is fighting to find the fantasy that will set his writing on fire. The odd goofball and the suave beefcake may either find love amid Provincetown’s colorful pageantry where summer never seems to end—or more heartbreak than either can imagine.

About When Love Gets Hairy

When Love Gets Hairy by Jacob Z. Flores eBookAs vain as he is beautiful, Nino Santos happily lives life waiting for the next ferry full of fairies to bring him new conquests. As long as they aren’t hirsute, he’s all in. So he’s shocked to wake up after a beach party he cannot remember with a hairy naked man lying next to him.

Teddy Miller doesn’t remember the “Bear Week” party either, much less the Abercrombie & Fitch model wannabe next to him. Teddy doesn’t give two cents about appearances, but guys like Abercrombie don’t return the favor. That’s why he prefers men with extra fur and padding over carbon copy clones of perfection—a type of man Teddy is far too familiar with.

When Nino and Teddy glimpse each other the next morning, it’s loathing at first sight. Instead of exchanging phone numbers, they exchange insults and vow never to see each other again. In Provincetown, however, escaping a trick best forgotten isn’t easy. Mutual friends and chance circumstances keep Nino and Teddy in each other’s orbit. But are they fighting each other or the attraction growing between them? The answer lies amid Provincetown’s windswept dunes and the night neither of them can recall.

At night and during his summer vacation, he loosens the tie and tosses aside the trendy sports coat to write man on man fiction, where the hardass assessor of freshmen level composition turns his attention to the firm posteriors and other rigid appendages of the characters in his fictional world.

Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. GRL Blog Tour: Rhys Ford – How I Met The Girls + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

How I Met The Girls

by Rhys Ford

I owed The Blogger Girls a post. In the middle of a firestorm of deadlines and art and more deadline, I owe a blog post and for the life of me, I had no idea what to write about. One of them suggested I write about meeting the most fantastic Blogger Girls.

Okay and to be honest, it was pretty fantastic. Because they are awesomesauce.

Let me set the scene.

The fantabulous Jacob Flores and I are huddling at a table in a corner of a massive hall. Okay maybe not Comic Con massive but large enough. We’ve already decided we would sit together, drink coffee and probably spend the time talking since no one in their right minds has heard of us and really, we’re not authors*. Not really.

So the doors open and well, Jacob gets swarmed. I’m pretty sure they were not only drawn by his brilliance but also by his thousand-watt smile. People come by and ask me to sign things.

I am perplexed. Still… pretty much a bit of what the fuck is this? I don’t know you! Only people I know have read my shit because well, they HAVE to.** Guilt, emotional terrorism…whatever you want to call it.. that’s how you got a Rhys Ford book on your kindle.

Because you had no choice.

And then in the mass of confusion, names and faces… a pack of women appear.

I can’t even tell you who all was in the group. I was that flummoxed. They knew about Cole and Jae…and Miki and Kane. Or maybe… I can’t even tell you what I talked about because it was a blur. Their faces I remembered because really they were so damned nice.

It’s good to be nice to a terrified writer. We also like coffee and maybe the occasional caramel but mostly coffee.

And see from that pack of very sweet people, you have a few of the Blogger Girls.

Who are fantastic people and truly, wonderful, strong, personable and most of all generous with their affection. And man, a love of books.

Because that’s what binds us all together at GRL. Books.

I don’t go to GRL because I’m an author. I go because I’m a reader who happens to throw brain vomit on some pixels and someone’s foolish enough to push them into larger pixels and onto pages. I am grateful for that foolishness. I am an author by the grace of readers, not because I write. I will always write or concoct or spin stories in my head but getting them past my brain, past my thoughts and past my fingers requires a reader.

And see, I love to read. I love to discuss books. And the why of a plot and the who of a character. There’s so much background to writing that interests me or rather tickles some part of my brain and it hums when it’s happy. It purrs too. There’s an immense satisfaction in reading but there’s also a connectivity between all of us. People speak of the Tribe which does envelope our devotion to equality but see, GRL goes beyond that bond. I think it goes even deeper that.

We are Readers, first and foremost. And I truly believe that’s the foundation of our experiences at GRL. We have sought out one another and celebrate that bond. This gathering allows us to discover new authors and connect with familiar ones. We make new friends and renew old friendships.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Blogger Girls again. Because nothing beats a smile in person and a lovely hug from people you scarcely know in person but are so intimate with on so many levels.

So there you go. Gay Rom Lit in a nutshell. Yes, alcohol, talking, no sleep, early mornings, late nights, mumbling over food, loud laughter but most of all, readers. Singularly, readers.

* By the way, that feeling never really goes away.

** Yeah, this is another thing that never goes away. In my head, only people I know on a face to face basis on whom I’ve foisted my book on have read it. I have six readers. They might rotate depending on the book but SIX!

GRL Blog Tour: T.A. Chase – A Friendship that Will Last a Lifetime + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

A Friendship that Will Last a Lifetime

by T.A. Chase

When I went to the very first GRL in New Orleans, I was going to meet people I’d become friends with online. Wonderful people who read and wrote the same kind of books that I did, so I wouldn’t feel out of place when I said I read gay romance.

Little did I know that I would meet someone who would become one of my closest friends and a perfect author who seems to be able to tie into my mind. We like to call it our hive mind.

Devon Rhodes has a terrible habit of losing her room key. (She won’t mind me telling you that…lol) We were on the same floor in New Orleans and she asked me to keep one of her extra keys. That way when she lost hers or left it in her room, she could come and find me to let her in.

I was more than happy to do that. We hung out together and discovered our minds seemed to work in the same way. (which should be scary to people…lol) So we were friends by the end of the first GRL.

Devon and I decided to room together at Albuquerque for the second GRL. Again, we discovered how well we fit. By the time she got to the hotel, I’d already put all my clothes away and my side of the room was neat and organized. She did the exact same thing when she arrived before we did anything else.

In Albuquerque, we hatched our International Men of Sports series, which has eight books in it so far and there will be more. Plus we’ve come up with other series we will be writing together as well.

It’s rare to find a person that one seems to have some kind of connection with. While we’re writing and chatting together, we’ll have moments where we’ll type in the exact same thing at the same time. We call that our hive mind. It can be weird, but awesome as well.

My experiences at GRL have always been so much fun and entertaining. I love meeting all the readers and authors who make up the genre, but what I’ll always remember about my first GRL is meeting Devon and making a friend for life.

GRL Blog Tour: Jackie Nacht – The Minor Details of GRL + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

The Minor Details of GRL

by Jackie Nacht

First, I would like to take this time and thank Blogger Girls for having me as a guest here today. Thank you.

I’ve had the pleasure of reading many GRL posts over the last month and realized it was my time to come up with one. Let me tell you, it’s tough following this awesome group of authors and their tips because they are spot on.

So what do I add to the table? Well, a lot of you know that this will be my third GRL and I’m the shy one. Shush, I can hear you all laughing. Okay, okay, I’m pretty outgoing. So, I thought I would add the minor details for making your GRL experience a little better. Some are funny and not entirely necessary, but some may just save you tootsies. Seriously. *Blows out a breath* Here goes:

  1. Bring an eye mask or cucumbers patches. This can be a beauty tip for keeping puffiness at bay or it can be the major eye recovering you need after keeping your peepers open all night long. These babies have soothed the eyes and saved the headaches from coming on from staying up and chatting the night away. Ten minutes in the morning and you’ll feel like you’ve had a full nights rest instead of just walking into your hotel room to shower and change your clothes. 😉
  2. Band-Aids and comfy shoes. No matter what, you’re going to at one time wear a pair of uncomfortable shoes. Pshaw, I go all weekend wearing four inch heels. I can’t wait!  For some of us, it’s our one time of year to take the lounge pants off, shut off the computer and dress up. For others, it’s getting that knock-out time travel costume with the shoes you’ve never worn before. So make sure to bring Band-Aids to cover those blisters (maybe a little Neosporin) and comfy shoes. Sure the hotel will have them but you’ll pay top dollar.
  3. Safety pins-Yes, this isn’t necessary but they are wonderful to have around just in case. There are a lot of cool swag tags that are fun to put on your badges adhesively. Sometimes they don’t make it the weekend, so a safety pin is nice to have to keep your pink “Princess” slogan on. Also, safety pins can be a life saver for the costumes. Straps break or something rips; you have your travel back-up plan.
  4. Pick your poison. What I mean by this is more than likely you’ll be sore after the first day of standing and walking around. If you get sore, you may want to bring a pain reliever with you. Definitely not necessary for all but it’s something to keep in the back of your mind.
  5. Don’t disappear in the Bermuda Triangle (AKA your room). GRL is a long weekend. It is necessary at times to go up to your room, take a break and recharge those batteries. I love to go up and just close my eyes and rest to gear up for the rest of the night. However, don’t get lost and stay in your room all night. Your friends will want to see you and you’ll be greatly missed.
  6. Keep your eyes open. I say this to all of you and as I write this, as a reminder to myself. A lot of people are new and coming from all around the world by themselves. If you see someone in the corner, more than likely, it’s a lot easier for you to walk into the corner than for them to come out. Go and say hi, you may have just introduced yourself to your lifelong friend
  7. Have fun! GRL is an experience like no other.

About Jackie Nacht

JackieNachtbanner2013

Short, sexy and sweet— where a little love goes a long way.

That’s the best way to describe Jackie Nacht’s stories. She was introduced to M/M Romance through her sister, Stephani, and read it for years. Then, she thought it was time to put her own stories on paper. Jackie began writing short and sweet stories that ended with a happily ever after.

Thinking back to her own book addiction, where there were many nights Jackie stayed up way too late so she could read just one more chapter— yeah, right— Jackie decided to write short romances for young adults as well as adults. Hopefully, they will give high school and college students, or working men and women something they can read during their lunch hour, in between classes or just when they want to briefly get away from the daily stresses of everyday life.

You can find Jackie at her Website, Blog, Facebook or Twitter.

GRL Blog Tour: Clare London – There’s a Brit in the Lobby! + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

There’s a Brit in the Lobby!

by Clare London

So here I am – the short, plump little Brit lady, fresh in from the loooong Transatlantic flight, unnoticed and alone in the big, plush American hotel lobby, shyly picking at the hem of my “Don’t Bite Me” T-shirt, wondering whether I brought enough wacky clothes in my already overstuffed suitcase, and how on earth I’ll ever be heard over the excited and happy US voices at the bar when I want – no, NEED – a frozen Margarita?!

Wait. Let’s re-shoot that scene. That is so NOT how I first experienced GRL LOL.

I went to the first GRL without really knowing many people. I mean, I knew many of the attendee list from online, and I’d met some of them at Yaoi Con and the NY Book Fair, but this was my first real MM fiction event. I even dragged my son along with me as moral support (he loved New Orleans! though he was disappointed in my party stamina, which was much less than his :).) I also arrived late because of flight times. Things were not looking good for me, the newbie.

Then I was invited to grab dinner with the lovely Elisa Rolle and her friend, I bravely introduced myself to Ethan Day so I could find my souvenir T-shirt and bag … and I started to relax.

To be honest, the one thing I learned was that, short of locking yourself away in your hotel room and avoiding every single scheduled and social event – it’s impossible not to mix and make friends. The first big step of any event like this is GOING there. After that, the mere fact of you being around means that people say hello, that you recognise people from online names – and maybe they recognise you too! though I’ve never forgiven Marie Sexton for calling me a “grand dame” (joke!) – that you soak in the enthusiasm and fun, that you’re seated beside people you don’t know at the start of an author reading, but know much better at the end. There’s an overwhelming sense of relaxation, belonging and community that can’t be beaten.

That’s NOT to say that you’re dragged off into huge groups, forced to take part in drinking games, and have to dance on tables! You are still in charge of how much you do or don’t. I’m an introvert, which means I like socialising, but need to recharge by taking time out on my own in the quiet. I told you how my son was disappointed in my lack of party stamina, remember? LOL

Some of my favourite events at GRL are the author readings. If you’re there this year, come and listen to me and my “cute” Brit accent! Though as I often say, it’s not *me* who has the accent ….. LOL.

And ENJOY YOURSELF!

About No Angel

No AngelFelix’s life is full, juggling a supportive homelife for his disabled brother, a job as a care home assistant, a brand new boyfriend – and now he’s had his arse pinched by a lewd gay ghost on the late night bus!

If only that were the end of it. But Bryn the ghost follows him home and wheedles himself into Felix’s life. That includes sharing his shameless opinions on the patronising way Felix treats his brother, on how Felix should eat more food and put some flesh on his bones, and – worst of all – exactly how Felix should be getting down to it with his seriously sexy new boyfriend Mickey! And in between all that, Bryn finds time to leer at Felix himself and make outrageous suggestions on what they’d be doing if Bryn wasn’t … well … ghostly.

Felix considers he’s a tolerant guy. But the last thing he needs now is to get wrapped up in the mystery of a missing teenage girl, the inhabitants of a local squat, and conversations with a fire-and-brimstone old preacher. However, with a nudge or six from Bryn, the help of his brother Patrick, and some cosy loving from Mickey – Felix starts to wonder how he ever thought his life was busy before!

An Excerpt from No Angel

It wasn’t that Felix had never been touched up, because he had. He was attractive enough, right? But first, it had been a long time since anyone had bothered. Second, it happened in the small hours of a Friday morning, and lastly—and perhaps most importantly—it was on an all-night London bus where he appeared to be the only conscious passenger.

It was a bloody fierce pinch of his arse, too, gripping a good sized part of his buttock and making an impression right through his jeans. Felix gave a shout of surprise and jerked upright in his seat, peering around for the culprit. The only other person in the back of the bus with him was a very old man with his eyes shut, snoring fitfully on the other side of the aisle. His cheek was squashed up against the window and he clutched a half-filled cup of muddy-looking liquid to his chest. A ragged dog slept equally as soundly at his feet, its front paws stretched out from under the seat.

As Felix glared suspiciously at the pair of them, the old man slumped down even farther and snored even more loudly. His cup tipped forward and a trail of cold tea dribbled onto the floor. Felix wrinkled his nose. The old guy smelt dreadful—a mixture of stale urine and the fuel-and-filth smell of living on the streets. What’s more, he didn’t look like he’d be conscious any time soon, let alone try groping anyone.

“Oi!” Felix said aloud, then felt idiotic talking into the silence.

If the driver heard him, he’d be turned off the bus as a drunk. Opposite him, the old man snorted into the worn seat cover and the dregs of his tea plopped onto the floor of the bus. There was no other sound apart from the hissing squeal of the bus’s brakes as it pulled away again from the stop.

Felix tried another low “Hello?”, then glanced around quickly. Nothing moved. No sheepish kid stuck out his tongue, no passing party-goer waved hands at him that had been way too free on his arse already. “Well…just watch out,” he said gruffly, self-consciously, hardly believing he was talking to himself on the bus like one of the nutters who sat next to him so often.

::You felt it! Didn’t you?::

Felix opened his mouth to reply then closed it again, not sure whether he’d really heard something. What or who was he replying to? He couldn’t see where any voice had come from. A shiver ran down his back.

::You heard me, see? Say something, boy. Tell me you heard me. Come on! Hell’s bells, man, do you know how important this is?::

Felix grimaced and glanced back over at the old man. He was still doing a better impression of a corpse than a ventriloquist. The driver had his back to Felix and was right at the other end of the bus. And there was no one else in sight.

But he could still hear The Voice. A bold cadence to the words, a Welsh lilt of an accent. In his head.

::No you’re not going mad. And I’m not that derelict idiot with tea stains down his trousers. I’m me, and I’m trying to have a fucking conversation with you, yet you’re sitting there silent, with your tongue hanging out like some imbecile—::

“Cut it out!” Felix snapped, then dropped his voice. “What makes you think I want a conversation with someone who calls me an imbecile?”

::Bollocks. No, I mean I’m sorry. You’re not an imbecile. Well, you don’t look like you are. And to tell you the truth, even if you were raving and frothing at the mouth and calling yourself the great-grandson of Beelzebub himself, I’d still want a decent conversation with someone other than myself.::

Felix watched another bus stop pass by the smeared window. There were only a few hundred yards to home now. He had, of course, been working very hard recently, taking all the extra shifts. Those long hours were bound to take their toll on his nerves one way or another.

::Look, I said sorry, see? and I’ll say it again if you want. If I knew which way you swung, I’d offer to kiss your arse, whatever you like. Not sure what you young guys do nowadays. Just…say something to me. Something else.::

Felix pulled his jacket tightly around him. “Where are you? I can’t see you.”

::So start with the metaphysical stuff, why don’t you? I have no fucking idea. I’m just…here. Around. I’ve been riding the bus all night, but no one else has felt or heard me, so I guess I’m not occupying any real space at the moment. I’m not here, not like you are. But I am here. In some other sense.::

“That’s not much of an answer, is it?”

::It’s bollocks. But that’s what you asked.::

“You’ve been riding the bus?” Felix lowered his voice even more so it could hardly be heard over the sound of the bus’s engine. “Touching people up? What kind of pervert are you?”

The Voice chuckled—there was really no other description for the soft, surprisingly warm sound that echoed inside Felix’s head. ::You tell me, boy. When you spend your days nudging into people who don’t notice whether you pass around, through or over them, wouldn’t YOU be tempted to shake someone up a bit? To make some impression on them—get some response?::

About Clare London

Clare took the pen name London from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with the weekly wash, waiting for the far distant day when she can afford to give up her day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy.  Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic and sexy characters.

Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter 3 stage and plenty of other projects in mind . . . she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

Find details of her publications and plenty of free fiction at her website, including an invitation to her mailing list. Visit her today and say hello!

You can find Clare on her Website, Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads and Amazon.

GRL Blog Tour: Belinda McBride – Memories of New Orleans

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

Memories of New Orleans

by Belinda McBride

I’ve been lucky enough to attend GRL every year since it first started. As an author, I attend a lot of events but I have to say, the first GRL in New Orleans was just special. Maybe it was because it was the first event of its kind or that it was in New Orleans, which is my favorite city, but that first year was just magical.

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel is reputedly haunted, and it lived up to those rumors, treating many attendees to ghostly touches, sounds and other haunting experiences. My personal favorite moment happened while sitting in a suite with Lynn Lorenz, Amanda Young and Tara Lain. As we chatted, I started hearing a sound that grew progressively louder and more insistent. Suddenly Amanda said, “Do you hear that?” We all stopped talking to listen to the sound of footsteps circling the room. Once we returned to our conversation, both Amanda and I felt cool touches on our skin. Oddly, my pinky finger grew icy cold while the rest of my hand stayed warm!

Spooookkkyyyy…..!

I met many of my favorite authors and internet friends for the first time in New Orleans. I will never forget being in line as we were stuffing bags, to look up and see Johnny Miles! I got one of his world-class hugs and immediately felt as though I’d known him forever.

Later, I was walking with Zam and we saw Heidi Cullinan, Marie Sexton and Rowan Speedwell sitting outside at a café across the street from the hotel. They invited us to join them for a drink…and who can resist having a glass of Vampire Wine while in New Orleans? LOL! Well, I don’t often drink but agreed to a half glass…because who wouldn’t? Well, a few minutes stretched to well over an hour, and oddly, my half glass of wine never went down. Feeling a bit woozy, I glanced up just in time to catch Heidi “topping” my glass…she’d probably done it many, many times. I just remember being really grateful the hotel was just across the street because walking was a challenge!

grlNOLA

So now Chicago is drawing close, I’m shopping for airfare and stocking up on swag. I’ll have a new book to promote and am already considering what clothing to take along. But over all, I’m looking forward to seeing friends again, to seeing new faces and just having fun talking books. Gay Rom Lit is far more than an industry event for me, it’s a meeting of friends and family, a time to touch bases and recharge my creative batteries.

Four months, and I’m counting every day!

GRL Blog Tour: JJ Black – Confessions of a Newbie + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

Confessions of a Newbie

by JJ Black

I have a confession…I’m a virgin.

What? No! Get your mind out of the gutter. We’re talking about conventions here. That’s right. I am a convention newbie. No RT, no Comic-Con, no AEE for me. Pure and untouched as the driven snow, here… okay, I knew that was pushing it too far.

All joking aside, I’m a little nervous but really excited. I’m very new to the publishing world so I was hesitant to sign up as a Supporting Author. I was worried that it was too soon, that I was too new, to attend as an author. My inner turmoil was angsty and ridiculous so I’ll save you the headache. Long story short, the debate was finally ended by my very sensible sister asking, “Have you written a book that’s been published? Yes? Then shut up, you’re an author.” Gotta love that girl!

So, here we are. GRL is just a few months away and the excitement is building. The fact that it’s in Chicago, just a few hours away, couldn’t be more perfect. I’m not really sure what to expect but, from all the stories I’ve heard over the last year, I’m anticipating a weekend full of fun and shenanigans, great authors and amazing readers. Authors are my rock stars so you know I’m gonna totally fan-girl it up. I can’t wait!

As some of you may know, blogging makes me nervous. I can make up a world of demons but ask me to sit down and talk about myself? You might as well ask me to do quantum physics and learn to speak Swahili in a day. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. That being said, a few weeks ago I enlisted the help of some amazing fans who saved my blogging butt and gave me some questions they thought would help people get to know me better. They had some great ideas and I can’t thank them enough.

  • What authors are you most excited to meet and why? Mary Calmes and Amber Kell. Mary Calmes is my go-to for comfort reading. Whenever I’m down or need some inspiration, I always look for one of her books. Amber Kell has an imagination and drive that I can only dream of having. She juggles multiple series flawlessly and makes it look easy.
  • What led you to write M/M romance?  Men are a mystery. I’ve always wondered how they feel when they’re in relationships. I love the idea of strong men who fall in love with each other and aren’t afraid to show that love to each other and the world.
  • Why paranormal romance and have you thought about writing a different genre? I love paranormal romance because I’m not great at following rules. With PNR, you’re free to create whatever you can imagine and not be concerned if it could happen in real life. I am definitely open to writing in another genre if the right story came to me.
  • What are three things that people should know about you? 1.) Coffee is one of my main food groups. If I haven’t had any, approach at your own risk.  2.) I hate sprinkles.  3.) I have a slightly obsessive love of both, Resident Evil and Harry Potter movies.
  • If someone were to look at your search engine today, what would they find? Michigan cougars (not the kind you are thinking of J ), history of banshees, fairy wings, flights to Hawaii (my sister just moved there and I’m already planning my visit), hot male gingers (challenge accepted and won!)

Well, that’s it for me. I want to thank The Blogger Girls for letting me stop by for a visit and I’m looking forward to seeing everybody in October!

About Our Omega

Our OmegaSometimes two just isn’t enough.

Noah Steele is a broken man. Though born a strong, confident Alpha, the torture and betrayal he experienced by order of his own father have left him a shell of the man he once was. Still gripped by the fear left in the wake of his trauma, he no longer trusts his instincts or his ability to lead. Shamed, he hides himself away, even from the mate he longs to claim as his own.

Dax Marshall needs some downtime. Between protecting the Pack in his role as Beta and leading teams to search for more of Alpha Steele’s facilities, his responsibilities are starting to overwhelm him. If only he could find the one person destined to soothe both himself and his wolf.

Between dominant wolves, power struggles are always an issue. Time and patience will be needed to make their mating work. Unfortunately, time is in short supply. New information has Dax, Noah and a team following a lead to a breeding facility—and much more. Among the prisoners, they find an abused young man who calls to them both in a way that neither of them understands.

While they scramble to adjust to fate’s curveball, more information comes to light showing just how far Alpha Steele is willing to go in his quest to rule the Packs. Will their new happiness withstand the madman’s plans or be destroyed by the malevolence of his ambition?

GRL Blog Tour: Jamie Lynn Miller – Why Do We Hurt the Ones We Love? Excerpt & Giveaway

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

Why Do We Hurt the Ones We Love?

by Jamie Lynn Miller

Many thanks to everyone at The Blogger Girls for having me here today – the second stop of my GRL 2014 blog tour! Keep reading to find out how you can win a FREE copy of my latest novel AND an Amazon gift card.

I’m Jamie Lynn Miller and I’d like to talk about my novella Memory’s Prisoner. My tagline says it all: “Men in uniform…and out”. Give me a cop, a fireman or a paramedic and I’ll write a story about them.

Why do we hurt the ones we love?

I’ve been asking myself that question since I was old enough to read my first Hardy Boys book. Joe was my favorite character and all of my favorite stories had him hurt or kidnapped or in some sort of danger. Eventually that carried over to TV shows, too, when I was a kid. Like “Emergency” – Roy was my favorite and if he was in peril, I loved it. Then there was “Starsky and Hutch”. If Hutch was suffering I was loving it. Whenever my “hero” was hurt or in jeopardy and his friend/partner was there to put him back together again I was in my happy place.

This continued on into my teens and young adulthood and I truly thought there was something wrong with me! Why did I like it when my favorite characters were in pain? I felt like I was in need of a 12 step program or something!

Then in my early twenties I discovered fanfic. More importantly, I discovered HURT/COMFORT fanfic. It was like the heavens opened up and a great light shined down upon me. I wasn’t strange for wanting my favorite characters to get shot or poisoned! There was a whole ton of people just like me! I can’t tell you what a relief it was 🙂 And that was the catalyst for me to actually start writing my own stories.

Now I embrace my love of hurt/comfort. It’s a running theme in my eBooks and Memory’s Prisoner is no exception. This time the hurt is both physical and emotional with Mitch and Joey needing to lean on each other to get through their injuries that have changed their lives, providing the comfort they both desperately need.

So here it is, Memory’s Prisoner, the story of Mitch and Joey and how they overcame the odds to find their way back to one another. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

An Excerpt from Memory’s Prisoner

Mitch crouched at the corner of one crate, preparing to slip to the next closest one. The flash from a rifle’s muzzle inside the warehouse caught Mitch’s eye as it illuminated the gunman.

Doyle.

Their eyes locked and an evil, maniacal grin crossed the psychopath’s face. Mitch’s cover had been blown. A split second later he heard the ominous click of the triggering mechanism inside the crate he was leaning against and Mitch knew he had seconds to live.

Launching himself up and away from the crate, heedless of the gunfire surrounding him, Mitch desperately tried to put as much distance between himself and the bomb as he could. Four frantic strides were all he could manage.

The force of the explosion threw him off his feet and hurled him forward, wave after wave of intense heat and debris at his back, before he slammed down onto the dock. Excruciating pain like he’d never known raced through his battered body as he rolled across the wooden surface before coming to rest on his back. Dazed and winded, fighting unconsciousness, Mitch heard Tim frantically calling his name. His head lolled to the side as he tried to answer but his gaze caught sight of the torn, bloody mass of flesh that was his left leg.

“NO! MITCH!”

Joey’s cry of utter terror drew Mitch’s attention from his mangled body. He looked up to see his partner racing toward him, surrounded by Team Three, weapons blazing. Uncaring of the extreme danger he was in, Joey charged forward in a desperate rescue attempt, his fear for Mitch written all over his face.

Horrified, Mitch tried to call out, managing only a hoarse whisper. “No… get back….”

Two feet from Mitch it happened.

Another crate exploded, sending huge pieces of debris through the air. Unable to slow down or change course, Joey plowed directly through the explosion, his head suddenly snapping violently to the side as a large piece of wood impacted it.

“JOEY!”

The scream was torn from Mitch’s throat as he watched his partner’s expression change from one of terrified concern to one of total confusion as the wood hit its mark and his body crumpled like a rag doll.

The nightmare had begun.
