On the planet Valchondria, no illness exists, gay marriage is legal, and everyone is a person of color. However, a group called “the Maintainers” carefully monitors everyone’s speech, actions, and weight; the Maintainers also force so-called “colorsighted” people to hide their ability to see in color.

The brilliant scientist Taldra loves her twin gay sons and thinks of them as the hope for Valchondria’s future, but one of them becomes entangled in the cult of Degranon, while the other becomes stranded on the other side of a doorway through time. Can they find their way home and help Taldra save their world?

Honorary Blogger A.M. Sexton: Release Inspirational Photos + Giveaway

Inspirational Photos for RELEASE

by A.M. Sexton

I was a bit alarmed when I realized I was supposed to do a picture post for this blog tour, because in truth, I didn’t start out with many pictures at all. But once I started looking… well, who can complain about an excuse to browse Tumblr, right?

First and foremost, I had exactly ONE inspirational picture for this book that I found way back at the beginning, and it was vitally important to me. For months, it was the wallpaper on my laptop. But it wasn’t of any of the characters. It was of the city. This picture helped inspire the tone of both  (which readers will see in the second book).

Miguel Donato wasn’t too hard to find. I found lots of pictures that could work, but this one was my favorite.

The site I found it on said it was David Gandy, but… does that look like Gandy to you?

Anyway…

Finding pictures of Ayo was problematic because even though Ayo is technically an adult, he’s been genetically engineered and manipulated to look far younger than he is. I didn’t want to go looking for pictures of fourteen year old boys because… eww. But, I think this picture captures a lot of Ayo’s vulnerability and his innocence. (And the hair is just about right, too!)  The second picture is more what Ayo will look like later in life.

Of course, that leaves my main character, Misha.  Initially, I had no pictures at all of Misha, but when I started this post and started really LOOKING, I found a few really good ones. I think the third one  is by far my favorite, even though his hair is wrong. Something about his eyes just really feels right.

About Release

Release (Davlova, #1)Davlova: a poverty-ridden city-state ruled by a tyrannical upper class. Resources are scarce and technology is illegal. But in the slums, revolution is brewing.

Misha is a common pickpocket until his boss gives him a new job. Disguised as a whore, Misha is sent to work for one of the most powerful men in the city. But his real task is far more dangerous: get close to Miguel Donato, and find something – anything – that will help topple Davlova’s corrupt government.

Misha is plunged into the decadent world of the upper class, where slaves are common and even the most perverse pleasure can be found. Although he’s sure Davlova’s elite is involved in something horrific, proof is hard to come by, and Misha begins to fall in love with the man he’s supposed to betray. Then Misha meets Ayo – a sex slave forced by the neural implant in his brain to take pleasure from pain – and everything changes. As the lower class pushes toward a bloody revolution, Misha will find himself caught between his surprising feelings for Donato, his obligations to his clan, and his determination to save Ayo.

Warning: This book contains graphic descriptions of violent sexual acts of questionable consent that may be disturbing to some readers.

Honorary Blogger Mina MacLeod: A Wizard, a Knight, and an Assassin Walk Into a Bar—Stop Me if You’ve Heard This One + Giveaway!

Honorary_Blogger_Post

A Wizard, a Knight, and an Assassin Walk Into a Bar—Stop Me if You’ve Heard This One …

by Mina MacLeod

First, many thanks to The Blogger Girls for inviting me! I’m Mina MacLeod, and I’m here to ramble about my latest release from LT3 Press.

Swords, Sorcery, and Sundry—or “SSS,” as I tend to call it—was first written for National Novel Writing Month 2007. I wrote the first 55,000 words one year and the remaining 52,000 for 2008’s NaNo. It was a collection of tales that had been stewing in my head for a while, born of my love for best friends, female-identifying warriors, and male-identifying wizards. Also, anime.

I enjoy male/male romance a great deal—but even more than that, I love stories about BFFs. Unsurprisingly, I am a huge fan of anime and manga, particularly of the shounen genre. While I didn’t explicitly set out to blend Eastern and Western tropes into a gay fantasy novel, more than one person has accurately identified the book’s animanga shout-outs.

Friendship is the central theme of the book, although wizard Sylvain and assassin Niklas do have a romance subplot. This subplot continues to expand in the sequel, but warrior Ashe is never intended to be left behind. I wanted Ashe to stand out on her own, not as a satellite orbiting Sylvain/Niklas but as an independent character with her own story arc and goals. She is not a love interest and—some joking aside—this is not a threesome.

The emphasis on friendship stems partly from my own relationships. I’ve had the same best friends for over twenty years, and the thought of life without them makes me picture a dark and lonely place. I wanted to write a story wherein whatever else befell them these three could always count on each other. The Japanese term “nakama” best encapsulates the dynamic I wanted to create between the characters, fitting given the animanga cues. Meaning “comrade/friend,” being nakama transcends any animosity or differences between teammates/crew/etc. Whatever their differences, a comrade is a comrade and they will always have each other’s backs.

SSS’s final adventure was cut from the book and moved to the sequel, where it will serve as a kickoff for the next stage of the plot. Where the first book focused predominantly on various shorter adventures, the sequel will concentrate on a larger, overarching plot in which our heroes find themselves entangled. Without really meaning to, I seem to be following the pattern of an anime’s episodic first half and more serious second half. I don’t want to give out too many details, as I’m still working on the final outline, but they are definitely going to Muscari Aucheri. Once back in his old city, Sylvain may find he doesn’t fit in as well as he used to—and the wizard higher-ups may have to re-evaluate his situation in light of recent events.

I have plans for Ashe and Niklas, too. Niklas in particular is going to have to decide how he wants to live his life: as a moving target, or face things head-on with the risk of ending up on the wrong side of a blade’s pointy end. There may also be an asexual paladin or two in the mix …

The sequel is coming slowly, however. My husband and I are expecting our first child in the fall, and are busy dealing with all the rigmarole that comes with such a life-changing event. Nonetheless, I hope to complete it during maternity leave!

At the end of all things, fantasy is my first love. I’ve enjoyed revisiting my roots, and hope to bring more gay fantasy to the table in the future. If you decide to give SSS a chance, you have my incredibly humbled thanks.

About Swords, Sorcery, and Sundry

Swords, Sorcery, and Sundry [Ebook & Print]Wizard Sylvain just wants to sit down and have a drink, after days of walking when a shortage of funds forced him to sell his horse. Soldier Ashe would like to enjoy her evening, and not have it ruined by trouble. Assassin Niklas wishes they had both minded their own business and not made his bad night worse.

The bar they accidentally burn down is only the beginning, and they quickly learn that if they are to survive their penchant for trouble, teamwork will get them farther than standing alone.

GRL Blog Tour: JJ Black – Confessions of a Newbie + Giveaway!

GRL 2014 Blog Tour Banner

Confessions of a Newbie

by JJ Black

I have a confession…I’m a virgin.

What? No! Get your mind out of the gutter. We’re talking about conventions here. That’s right. I am a convention newbie. No RT, no Comic-Con, no AEE for me. Pure and untouched as the driven snow, here… okay, I knew that was pushing it too far.

All joking aside, I’m a little nervous but really excited. I’m very new to the publishing world so I was hesitant to sign up as a Supporting Author. I was worried that it was too soon, that I was too new, to attend as an author. My inner turmoil was angsty and ridiculous so I’ll save you the headache. Long story short, the debate was finally ended by my very sensible sister asking, “Have you written a book that’s been published? Yes? Then shut up, you’re an author.” Gotta love that girl!

So, here we are. GRL is just a few months away and the excitement is building. The fact that it’s in Chicago, just a few hours away, couldn’t be more perfect. I’m not really sure what to expect but, from all the stories I’ve heard over the last year, I’m anticipating a weekend full of fun and shenanigans, great authors and amazing readers. Authors are my rock stars so you know I’m gonna totally fan-girl it up. I can’t wait!

As some of you may know, blogging makes me nervous. I can make up a world of demons but ask me to sit down and talk about myself? You might as well ask me to do quantum physics and learn to speak Swahili in a day. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. That being said, a few weeks ago I enlisted the help of some amazing fans who saved my blogging butt and gave me some questions they thought would help people get to know me better. They had some great ideas and I can’t thank them enough.

  • What authors are you most excited to meet and why? Mary Calmes and Amber Kell. Mary Calmes is my go-to for comfort reading. Whenever I’m down or need some inspiration, I always look for one of her books. Amber Kell has an imagination and drive that I can only dream of having. She juggles multiple series flawlessly and makes it look easy.
  • What led you to write M/M romance?  Men are a mystery. I’ve always wondered how they feel when they’re in relationships. I love the idea of strong men who fall in love with each other and aren’t afraid to show that love to each other and the world.
  • Why paranormal romance and have you thought about writing a different genre? I love paranormal romance because I’m not great at following rules. With PNR, you’re free to create whatever you can imagine and not be concerned if it could happen in real life. I am definitely open to writing in another genre if the right story came to me.
  • What are three things that people should know about you? 1.) Coffee is one of my main food groups. If I haven’t had any, approach at your own risk.  2.) I hate sprinkles.  3.) I have a slightly obsessive love of both, Resident Evil and Harry Potter movies.
  • If someone were to look at your search engine today, what would they find? Michigan cougars (not the kind you are thinking of J ), history of banshees, fairy wings, flights to Hawaii (my sister just moved there and I’m already planning my visit), hot male gingers (challenge accepted and won!)

Well, that’s it for me. I want to thank The Blogger Girls for letting me stop by for a visit and I’m looking forward to seeing everybody in October!

About Our Omega

Our OmegaSometimes two just isn’t enough.

Noah Steele is a broken man. Though born a strong, confident Alpha, the torture and betrayal he experienced by order of his own father have left him a shell of the man he once was. Still gripped by the fear left in the wake of his trauma, he no longer trusts his instincts or his ability to lead. Shamed, he hides himself away, even from the mate he longs to claim as his own.

Dax Marshall needs some downtime. Between protecting the Pack in his role as Beta and leading teams to search for more of Alpha Steele’s facilities, his responsibilities are starting to overwhelm him. If only he could find the one person destined to soothe both himself and his wolf.

Between dominant wolves, power struggles are always an issue. Time and patience will be needed to make their mating work. Unfortunately, time is in short supply. New information has Dax, Noah and a team following a lead to a breeding facility—and much more. Among the prisoners, they find an abused young man who calls to them both in a way that neither of them understands.

While they scramble to adjust to fate’s curveball, more information comes to light showing just how far Alpha Steele is willing to go in his quest to rule the Packs. Will their new happiness withstand the madman’s plans or be destroyed by the malevolence of his ambition?
